Photonics West show is one of the most known exhibition for the optoelectronic components, gather optics, laser and photonics technology.

 

LIDAR component are a critical sensor of successful deployment of self-driving vehicles.

 

Indeed it is considered by the majority of the industry to be an essential part of the sensor suite required for autonomous driving, helping the vehicle to navigate through the environment and detect obstacles in its path.

 

In order to check the safety and have a quality control on these components it is important to have a device capable to check these elements.

 

Our equipment the VCProbe-NIR-DSD is specially designed to precisely measure small aperture of NIR sources. This system can measure all kinds of sources such as LIDAR, Flash LIDAR, Laser Diode and VCSEL widely used for driverless cars.

 

Angular measurement plays a key role in improving LIDAR sensors in self-driving cars. As the Vice president of quality and validation of Velodyne Dr Mircea Gradu point out in Autonomous Vehicles International Magazine “All LIDAR sensors should be evaluated with the same measurements allowing safe, secure deployment of the technologies involved.”

These systems are essentials to the deployment of technologies such as LIDAR, VCSEL; technologies that are used for self driving cars (ADAS & robotics) as well as facial recognition.

LIDAR for automotive has introduced new requirements in terms of NIR light source characterization. In every situation, precise characterization and fast measurements of light source emission properties in all its angular aperture is mandatory to get accurate 3D images.

 

In addition, all NIR sources must comply safety regulations and must be verified during the fabrication process. Thanks to our equipment it is possible, and it is also perfectly suited for production line.
